As of December 2020, we and our quarry partners have planted more than 11,000 trees. The program is managed by Engr. Jiboy Dogelio, our Environment/Pollution Control Officer, and Mulong Alerta, our property caretaker. Working together with Barangay Nipa, they plan and supervise tree planting and maintenance, and ensure that the seedlings survive.
To protect the environment and communities around our plant and quarries, we implemented the following countermeasures:
Impact | Countermeasures |
---|---|
Water pollution | Silt ponds • Silt traps |
Soil erosion | Slope protection • Tree planting • Vegetative cover |
Air pollution | Water sprays • Road watering |
Noise pollution | Noise barriers |
Community safety | Bund walls • Buffer zones • Road maintenance |
We submit regular safety and environmental performance reports to our regulators. Each quarter, a team consisting of representatives from the national government, provincial government and NGOs monitors and audits our programs.
We believe in the value of a good education. Hence, we spend a significant portion of our Social Development and Management Program budget to support Nipa Elementary School (NES).
We donated laptop computers, printers, PE uniforms and furniture. We improved the access road into the school. Our company regularly supports their academic excellence programs. These include medals and cash awards to top graduating students, and subsidies for delegates to interschool competitions.
During the COVID19 lockdown, we gave NES a high-volume copier for their weekly modules. With this, students can continue to learn while in-classroom instruction is suspended.
At the Online Paaralan beside our office, students have a cool and shaded tambayan with electrical power for their cellphones and laptops, Internet access and mentoring from our staff.
Our scholarship program in engineering, accounting and business management helps our local high school graduates move up the economic ladder.
We provide regular material and financial support to community projects and activities.
The company regularly meets and works closely with the Barangay to identify joint projects, provide feedback and address complaints. By working together, we improve their capacity to deliver services to their constituents.
Our recent projects include a multipurpose center, a tanod outpost/waiting shed, capacity and quality improvements to the barangay domestic water supply, road improvements, and medical equipment and supplies.
